Let’s talk about Igbo traditional attire and what they mean. You may have been seeing Igbo red caps, beads, Staff (Nkpala) but you do not know what they mean. Well, these essential items worth even more than you think. they have different symbols and what they represent.
The Red Cap
This cap means a lot of things to the traditional men of Igbo land. they do not joke with it as they are worn by the highly respected men, either the cap comes in red or in black, it is worn with respect and meant for respected chiefs.
The Staff (Nkpala)
The staff is generally known as Nkpala, you can also call it walking stick, not because it supports your walking to that great event, but because it is held by honourable men to blend their attire. When an Igbo man is well dressed in the traditional attire, and holds a staff then our people will say “He has arrived”
The Beads.
Beads are mostly used by men to make a final blend to their attire but mostly used by women either in their traditional marriage or in events as show-offs. The Deltans are known as the best at this. It is also a symbol of honour to the men.
